It's fanmix time again (I haven't posted one in yonks). Anyway, one of our projects in Horror/Scifi is a creative, alternative media project, so naturally... I did a fanmix. Because I'm a fandom geek. And, of course, I picked Carrie to do it on because it's one of my favorite horror novels/films ever. I saw the film/read the book the first time when I was just starting middle school, a time in my life that had me relating to Carrie more than I'd care to say.

Who's getting scared now? Tell me, how does it feel? It feels so good from where I'm standing... )

Katelyn stayed over last night! Huzzah! We ended up watching Labyrinth since, unbeknownst to me, she had never seen it before and so I had to let her experience the weird. We also watched Sleeping Beauty since neither of us had seen it in yonks and were quite embarrassed to discover that we still know all the words to the songs, even the more obscure ones.

This morning we watched A Muppet Christmas Carol because we'd been laughing over that old dream I had...the Swacit/Muppet Christmas Carol one with Ben as Scrooge...which, really, never stops being amusing. And Alan is Bob Cratchit and Geoff thinks he's Charles Dickens and goes around narrating with Gael at his side and Lena has to wear a silly bonnet and Adge looks pretty stricken at the end when Ben hugs him and it's one of my favorite dreams ever.

And "I don't even like Dickens."

I think seeing Roger and John as singing puppet ghosts would've been more than enough to set Ben on a path of redemption.

Also, Ru and Nik are Bunsen and Beaker. Hee.

Beaker: *gives Scrooge his scarf*
Katelyn: *beams* BUH BUH BUH BENNY AND THE JETS!
Me: ONE OF US! ONE OF US! GOOBLE GOBBLE GOOBLE GOBBLE! ONE OF US! ONE OF US!

Anyway, it reminded me to post this mix that has been cumulating on iTunes for freaking months. I mean, I've been building this one bit by bit since August and keep not bothering to post it because it's so freaking long. But I have to say in all honesty, even given the subject matter, it's one of my favorite playlists. It has a ton of my favorite bands and songs on it and as far as storytelling goes, it's the most complete. I need to stop storyboarding via fanmixes. Lol, oh well, Ben and Lena don't need a book now, they have this big honking thing. It covers from the time they met through their years together in Paris to their breakup to their reconciliation five years later.

Feat. Interpol, The Wombats, Scissor Sisters, Peter Bjorn and John, Goldfrapp, The Pierces, Pelle Carlberg, Duran Duran, Pink Floyd, Heather Nova, Anna Ternheim, Stereophonics, Andrew Bird's Bowl of Fire, j. englishman, The Raconteurs, The Cardigans, Hera, Jeff Buckley, People in Planes, Placebo, Shiny Toy Guns, VAST, The Smashing Pumpkins, Fiona Apple, PJ Harvey, My Brightest Diamond, Kings of Leon, Imogen Heap, Death Cab for Cutie, Snow Patrol, Neko Case, Trespassers William, Garbage, Beck, Sarah McLachlan, Turin Brakes, Mute Math, Guillemots, Flyleaf, Bell X1, Tom Lehrer, and some other people...

Entree: I've met someone that makes me feel seasick )

Intermezzo: There is no pain, you are receding... )

Pas de Deux: I Know We Could Be So Happy (if we wanted to be) )

Adagio: I'd break the back of love for you, I'd break the back of love for you )

Le Paroxysme: There's a ghost in my bed, she cries in her sleep... )

Debut de la Fin: I just couldn't breathe with your throne on my chest )

Le Denouement: If the world ends, I hope you're here with me )

Another familiar type of lovesong is the passionate or fiery variety, usually in tango tempo, in which the singer exhorts his partner to haunt him and taunt him and, if at all possible, to consume him with a kiss of fire. This particular illustration of this genre is called The Masochism Tango. )

Happy Cinco de Mayo!

Happy 2 year anniversary of prom! (seriously, two years ago...what?)

Speaking of prom, I seriously had the weirdest dream last night. It was prom, though apparently the school we went to was so large that needed to split it into five separate proms (there was one on a beach, one on a cruise ship, etc.). So me, Katelyn and this other girl I've never seen before get into a limo driven by Laurence Dominic from Dollhouse and he just sort of takes off and we're all "Um, I think there's supposed to be more people in here... also, I don't think we're supposed to be this far into Howell..." and we get the general gist that he's kidnapped us and is going to do horrible things to us and so I manage to get out of the car and into this other guy's, where I call the cops on his cellphone.

And then the dream did that weird thing that dreams do... where it just shifts setting with no warning and suddenly I'm at the prom taking place at this really fantastic water park and I keep getting pushed in the pool and asked to party. And I'm like "No, guys, I have some pretty serious shit to deal with right now." But nobody cares. And Harry Potter is just sort of chilling in the pool and all these people are wearing costumes in the pool, but not him. It actually just is Harry Potter, which... what? Anyway, so, like there's a guy dressed like Spiderman in the pool and an entire group of people dressed like Henry II and his family (what?). And the guy dressed like Richard the Lionheart was a total meathead and so I was like "Needs moar gay" and he got all pissed. And then me and my friend Eamonn (who was just there apparently?) and the one gay ballet dancer from Center Stage are all like "You know, I think we got the pretty sweet end of the deal as far as a waterpark prom goes" and then everyone had to go into the hotel where we were having an actual dance, which was apparently owned by Disney. And for some reason, I felt the need to take my swimsuit off, so I'm just, like, wandering around a Disney lobbey soaking wet and practically naked and I get all distracted by these cool virtual walkways... and then I woke up.

...k'. I'm sure Katelyn and what's-her-name are ok. Boyd Langton was on the case.

So, to recap, things I've been watching/thinking about too much lately:
Harry Potter
BBC's Robin Hood / The Tudors (the last of the Plantagenets were just executed on the show)
Wanting a Disney vacation
Dollhouse
Scenes with Roger and the distinct theme of attempted rape

So. At least I'm well rounded.

I was bored this morning so I decided to do a Swacit mix with nothing but Decemberists songs. Good times.

And I am a writer, writer of fictions, I am the heart that you call home )

Other Lena mix: Old Love Haunts Me in the Morning

Lol, that "Fuck You" song is so versatile. And so bouncy!

I am convinced the only way Lena can stand being in the same room as Roger is by imagining him like this:

and smirking incessantly to herself.

Which is the sort of reason why Lena and Rufus make such good friends.

I'm glad it makes them feel better, because it certainly does nothing for my sanity.

Ok, so, I have a math test on Wednesday and on Thursday, I have an in-class writing exam in Comp, a Psych test, and my presentation due in Shakespeare. So. Much. Fail.

Oh, well, I at least have the play to forward to this Sunday. And nex weekedn I am stealing Katelyn from school :D :D :D

Back to the schoolwork though... BLERGH. I so just want to be writing right now. Writing... what exactly, I'm not sure, but that doesn't matter! I do know I want to move away from the villains for a while, since everything I have been writting lately (which includes rhetorical court transcripts, btw) has been about them and it's beginning to depress me. Seriously, writing about them is like writing an entirely different book. And when Ben is a sympathetic characer by comparison to the others, I need to take a break. (Though, Jesus, Roger gives me the creeps sometimes. One of my favorites is probably when Ben, Roger, and John went to Vegas and he insisted on driving four hours North, without telling where they were going. Their destination? Spahn Ranch, the last known home of The Manson Family. To his credit, Ben does call him a fucking ghoul and insist they leave. See what I mean? I hate writing "to his credit, Ben..." period. That scene btw would be in the rhetorical Ben/Lena book... the one I'm totally not writing. Ahem.)

Anyway, as a breakoff point from villainhood for the time being, I did a less-than-serious villain mix. Bouncier, melodramatic, more prone to making them look like the moronic weirdos they are.

There are three tracks from Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog on here. As I mentioned in an e-mail to Jess, whether or not a person finds something to like about Dr. Horrible has become my catalyst for determining whether or not a character has a soul or not (Roger hates it, btw).

Voltaire, Margo Guryan, The Magnetic Fields, Felicia Day, Neil Patrick Harris, Ben Folds Five, Scissor Sisters, The White Stripes, Donovan, Green Day, My Chemical Romance

I am tired and sated on good barbecue.

Lol, tonight was my dad/uncle's birthday party (their birthdays are seven years and one day apart) and my uncle was ripped on Tequila and kept trying to start shit with me about politics and Obama. It went on for about two minues before Grandma Liz snapped, "Craig, will you shut up with that stupid shit?" Hee!

Sin numbah six: Wrath, or How Ben and Roger would really like to beat the shit out of each other. Is it bad that if Ben actually had just beaten and killed Roger at the end of the first book, I'd actually have a modicum of respect for Ben? I think I've been watching too much overdramatic sci-fi. It's also probably bad that wanting to beat the living shit out of Roger is probably the only thing Ben and Mel have bonded over.

First mix in my Seven Deadly Sins set. Lol, I went with Lust first since it certainly seems to be my characters' sin of choice. I find it amusing that Ben and/or Lena manage to be on the cover of four out of seven of the mixes. They're also the only characters to be mentioned on all seven mixes. So, er, congrats to them? Gluttony
Greed

January 18th, 2009

1. I am prety damn stoked for Tuesday night's inauguration.
2. I am loving my four-day weekend.
3. I am, however, feeling a little discombobulated because someone close to me has begun doing something that sort of...caught me by surprise. *ahem* That's all I'm gonna say. I mean, it's one of those things where you know they're going to do it eventually but... Jesus, just hold on a minute.
4. Speaking of which, I've been trying to write Mel and Adge's first time. Also their time on the motorbike...though ever since mum told me and Katelyn that she and her boyfriend actually had sex on their motorbike... I've developed some selective writer's block. At least Mel and Adge's bike wasn't fucking moving at the time.
5. Writing's actually been going fairly well. I have about a dozen scenes I'm working on/about to start. So that's good. I normally try to stay unsentimental about the whole thing but lately I've been fleshing out Gael and last night it hit me hard in the gut that I'm really heartbroken that he has to die. I mean... I felt devastated. Devastated in a way that is completely ridiculous since he's bloody fictional. Still though...gah. :(
I don't know, I must be hormonal. I actually felt like crying.
6. Several of the scenes I('m/'ve) writ(ten/ing) have featured Ben and Lena and while I am guilty of being fond of them as a couple, they are beginning to give me a brain fissure. Therefore! I am putting my mind back on my other young brunette couple. And the best way to do that is, of course, fanmixes!

Two of them in fact. They're not quite EPs but they're much smaller than my usual mixes. The first is sort of Mel/Adge from age 7 to 14, the second ages 15 to 20.

Patrick Wolf, Beach House, Air, The Cardigans, Sufjan Stevens, Priscilla Ahn, Sigur Ros

'Cause you and me, So happily, Make all our dreams of make believe reality )

Liars, Iron & Wine, The Hush Sound, City and Colour, Margot & The Nuclear So & So's Kings of Convenience, The Shins, The Magnetic Fields

And her dignity shown so bright like a light on a hill. And she burned for me, and no other man came near the flame. And back country songs, the defeaning twang of the rich-white-kid blues You can own the stage, but the lights and glares will not make you real. She whispers to me, I was meant to be free. This life that we've built is deadly.  )

It's embarrassing how excied I was when I found that piano pic. Lol.

Lol, so guys... you remember at the New Year's party when the French's love of burning cars for any occasion, happy or sad, was brought up? Guess what the French were doing the exact moment we were discussing it.

This is why I love the French. Their spontaneity can always be counted on.

New Swacit mix. I seriously have a huge backup of mixes I want to post. So many I don't even want to go about posting them. However, after losing 50% of my music last year during the crash, the mixes online proved quite useful. So there we are. I need to post Alan's and about 5 general eps and a Seven Deadly Sins set that was very fun to make, and an embarassingly huge Ben/Lena one (so huge in fact, I no longer need to write their book... I can just listen to that).

This one's pretty general and on the theme of time... which sort of a big one in the books.
